We live in a world where communications and travel have become so accessible that it's no longer uncommon to meet a friendly neighbour from the other side of the world or to chat to your parents in the UK while lying on the beach in Brazil. Of course, there are lots of reasons why people learn new languages. Before you rush out to enrol at the local French language school however, consider travelling abroad. - German - the sleeper option you probably weren't expecting; the language is melodic and produces textured sounds that can give you an exotic allure.
For people who see language skills as a means to the top of the business ladder, some research into favourable markets is required. Although Chinese and Arabic courses are becoming more and more popular, students in the EU concerned about career advancement generally choose to learn Spanish, French, German or Portuguese.
